ZORAH

ZORAH winery is the modern ambassador of Armenian winemaking on the world stage. This journey began in 1998 when Zorik Gharibian first visited his ancestral homeland. Enchanted by the rugged beauty and spirit of Armenia, he decided to set down roots here. Before embarking on his wine adventure, Zorik revitalized a tricotage factory in Kapan, providing jobs for over 250 women. This philanthropic venture paved the way for his deep connection with the country.

Choosing his ancestral roots over a potential vineyard in Tuscany, Zorik and his wife, Yeraz, selected the village of Rind in Vayots Dzor. Their mission was to rediscover Armenia’s ancient heritage and restore its traditional viticultural values. Today, they are joined by their children, Oshin and Nayiri, in taking this adventure further.

Global Recognition

In 2012, Bloomberg Businessweekly selected the top 10 wines out of 4000 from around the world through a blind tasting. One of those prestigious spots was claimed by Zorah Karasi Areni Noir, a historic milestone that placed Rind and Armenian wine at the center of the global wine map.

Terroir and High-Altitude Vineyards

Zorah’s vineyards reach elevations of 1400–1600 meters (up to 5250 ft) above sea level, making them some of the highest in the northern hemisphere.

Soil: Rocky, sandy, limestone soils that have never been touched by Phylloxera.

Cuttings: Derived from ancient, abandoned vineyards of a nearby 12th-century monastery.

Climate: Severe winters and dry, intense summers. Large day-night temperature variations add freshness and depth to the grapes.

Philosophy: Karas and Natural Expression
ZORAH follows a “no intervention” philosophy in the cellar. The wine is aged in traditional clay karasses (amphorae)—living vessels that allow the wine to breathe and mature without losing its terroir-driven personality. The process uses natural yeasts, minimal extraction, and very little sulfites.

Sport and Community

ZORAH is deeply integrated into local life. It serves as the starting and finishing point for the annual Yerevan Marathon Trail Running competition, bringing athletes and tourists to the heart of Rind.
