St. Mary’s Church (Surb Mariam Astvatsatsin)
The Saint Mary (Surb Mariam Astvatsatsin) Church is the modern spiritual symbol of Rind village in the Vayots Dzor region. Built as a result of community unity, it has become one of the most significant events in the village’s recent history.
History and Construction
The foundation stone of the church was laid on April 28, 2014, by the Primate of the Diocese of Vayots Dzor, Archbishop Abraham Mkrtchyan. The construction began through the initiative and support of the residents of Rind. A major contribution to the building of the church was made by Vardan Sargsyan, a Moscow-based businessman originally from Rind, whose philanthropy turned the long-standing dream of the community into reality.
The church was designed by architect Samvel Aghajanyan, featuring the grandeur and elegant solutions characteristic of traditional Armenian ecclesiastical architecture.
Consecration
After seven years of construction, on September 13, 2021, the solemn opening and consecration of the Saint Mary Church took place. The ceremony was performed by Archbishop Abraham Mkrtchyan, bringing together both locals and guests. Today, the church serves as the active spiritual heart of the village, hosting all religious rites and ceremonies.
