Karekin I

Karekin I Sarkissian (1932–1999) served as the Catholicos of All Armenians (1995–1999) and previously as the Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia (1983–1995). He was one of the 20th century’s most prominent theologians and intellectuals, making significant contributions to the global ecumenical movement. A brilliant orator and prolific author, he revitalized the spiritual and educational life of the Armenian Apostolic Church during the early years of Armenia’s independence.
