The Heroes of Rind in the 44-Day War

Throughout all stages of history, Rind has been a steadfast stronghold whose sons have stood ready to take up arms for the homeland, for the sanctity of family, and for their own dignity. This centuries-old call echoed once again on September 27, 2020, and the village of Rind did not remain indifferent to this fateful pan-Armenian summons.

The young men of Rind headed to the front, armed with their faith and an unyielding will to protect their land. They fought for the inviolability of the borders of the Republic of Artsakh and for the security of the Republic of Armenia.

Our soldiers did not lose, for those who fight to their last breath, without retreating or betraying their principles, are never defeated. The overall outcome of the war, unfortunately, is often determined not only by the self-sacrifice shown on the battlefield but also by a whirlpool of complex geopolitical games, internal organizational failures, and sometimes reckless decisions. However, none of this overshadows the feat of the Armenian soldier; they achieved the impossible and remained unconquered in spirit.

Today, we bow our heads before the heroes of Rind who became immortal for the sake of our tomorrow.

Hrachya Avetisyan

His source of inspiration and strength was his family. He was a devoted husband and father of two wonderful children. Gurgen Sargsyan
(24.01.1987 – 04.11.2020)

Kind, friendly, and sociable, Gurgen dreamed of finishing the house he was building with his own hands and welcoming the New Year under his own roof. He used to say: “My children are my peace; my exhaustion fades away with them.” His patriotism was not in words, but in deeds. Before leaving for war, in response to his daughter’s question, he said:

“You are all important to me. First and foremost, I am going to protect my family. If we do not protect the homeland today, tomorrow the enemy will come to our home.”

Near Shushi, he inspired his comrades: “Who will need us if we don’t fight and flee the battlefield?” Gurgen fell a hero’s death on November 4.

Norayr Mnatsakanyan
(12.10.2000 – 22.10.2020)

Norayr was a 20-year-old youth full of dreams. Hardworking and dedicated, he was inspired by his work and aimed to start his own business after his service. Everyone remembers him as an extremely caring and respectful person.

Last conversation: He spoke with his family for a long time, as if he did not want to hang up. He asked about everyone and reassured them: “Everything is normal…”

Norayr Mnatsakanyan died on October 22 near the village of Drakhtik in the Hadrut region, while fighting against a diversionary incursion. He was posthumously awarded the “Medal of Courage”.
