Tsaghkavank

Ծաղկավանք Հին Ռինդ

Tsaghkavank is a 12th-13th century Armenian Apostolic monastic complex located within the administrative territory of Rind village in the Vayots Dzor region, at the very center of the Old Rind settlement. This historical monument is officially included in the state list of immovable historical and cultural monuments of Rind.

History and Current State

Over the centuries, the monastery was destroyed; however, it never lost its spiritual significance. To preserve the sacred site, local residents used the fragments of the original monastery and ancient khachkars (cross-stones) to build a small chapel, which serves as a place of pilgrimage today.

The Heritage of Khachkars

Dozens of medieval khachkars have been preserved around the monastery, notable for their unique ornaments. One of them—an exceptional 13th-century khachkar leaning against the western wall of the chapel—is individually listed as a monument of national importance. Tsaghkavank and its surroundings stand as one of the most eloquent witnesses to the historical past of Old Rind.
